BOSTON - Anyone know what happened to Odrisamer Despaigne?

I'm not campaigning for his return, just seriously wondering about him, since the Orioles designated him for assignment on Sept. 5 to make room for Brian Duensing on the 40-man roster.

Duensing pitched last night and surrendered two runs in the seventh inning in a 12-2 loss to the Red Sox. Despaigne apparently is in baseball limbo.

Wade Miley may no longer be in the Orioles rotation. His next turn in a six-man rotation would come Sunday afternoon against the Rays at Camden Yards. Or manager Buck Showalter could bring back Dylan Bundy on normal rest, though the rookie might benefit from an extra day.

It would take a lot of trust for Showalter to run Miley back out there. Trust in a track record that includes the left-hander's final start before the trade, when he held the Cubs to one run and one hit and struck out nine batters in seven innings. He had three straight quality starts with the Mariners before coming to the Orioles.

Part of Miley's appeal to the Orioles was a contract that gave them control through 2017, when he's set to earn $8.917 million. There's also a $12 million team option for 2018.

The Orioles have a bigger decision to make in 2016. Does he keep starting for them or become another left-hander in the bullpen.

Fans screaming for the Orioles to designate him will be disappointed. It's an expanded roster. They'd change his role before his address.

Bundy is due for a good start based on his recent pattern.

Bundy has failed to work more than 4 1/3 innings in three of his last five outings, allowing 15 runs and 23 hits over 12 innings.

The Red Sox collected five runs and nine hits off Bundy in 4 1/3 innings on Aug. 17 at Camden Yards - the rookie's only career start against them. He's 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA in five lifetime appearances, with seven runs and 19 hits surrendered over 10 1/3 innings.

Bundy has allowed one run and five hits in four relief innings at Fenway Park.

The current Red Sox are batting .432 (19-for-44) against Bundy. Mookie Betts is 3-for-5 with a home run, Dustin Pedroia is 3-for-6, Brock Holt is 3-for-4 with a double and Sandy Leon is 2-for-3 with a home run.

Left-hander Drew Pomeranz is making his fourth career appearance against the Orioles and his first start. He's allowed one run and two hits over 4 2/3 innings, with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

The current Orioles are 4-for-21 against Pomeranz, and that includes Miley being 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Pomeranz has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his last seven starts, and two earned runs or fewer in six of seven.

Left-handers are batting .233 against Pomeranz this season, but he's held them to a .195 average in his career. Right-handers are hitting .202 against him this season and .243 over his career.
