Mountcastle on concussion IL, notes and lineups (updated)

The Orioles placed Ryan Mountcastle on the seven-day concussion injured list today and recalled left-hander Alexander Wells from Triple-A Norfolk.

Wells was eligible to return in fewer than the minimum 10 days based on an injury. He was scheduled to start today for the Tides.

Manager Brandon Hyde said the club will re-evaluate going with an extra pitcher after Monday's off-day.

Jorge Mateo is playing second base again today and Richie Martin is the shortstop.

Trey Mancini is the first baseman.

Cedric Mullins will try to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games.

Jorge López broke through the five-inning barrier in his last start, holding the Yankees to one run and one hit in six frames. He walked five batters, hit one and committed a balk.

López made a road start against the Rays on June 12 and allowed five runs and eight hits with eight strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Michael Wacha has started twice against the Orioles this season and allowed four runs in seven innings. Mountcastle and Pat Valaika homered off him in a July 21 game at Tropicana Field, but they won't be playing today.

Valaika was designated for assignment on Thursday.

Kevin Kiermaier is out of Tampa Bay's lineup after leaving last night's game with a sore knee.

The Orioles are 1-10 against the Rays this season. They've set a club record by allowing 10 or more runs in their last four games while being outscored 45-13.

The bullpen ERA is 15.66 in 16 2/3 innings during that stretch.
