Mullins moves to ninth in All-Star voting

As Cedric Mullins climbs up the hits chart in the majors, he also has risen to ninth among American League outfielders in the latest All-Star voting.

This is a significant bump from 10th because the top nine outfielders advance to Phase 2.

Mullins-Sliding-Catch-at-Wall-White-Sidebar.jpgMullins has collected 86 hits to lead the league, one ahead of Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He's received 366,555 votes to move past Tampa Bay's Randy Arozarena, who trails with 358,742.

The Phase 1 voting period ends Thursday at 4 p.m. The top three players at each position, and top nine outfielders, will be revealed at noon Sunday on MLB Network, with the next round beginning at noon Monday.

Fans will have four days to cast their votes among the finalists.

The All-Star Game will be played July 13 in Colorado. Click here to access the ballot.

First baseman Trey Mancini has slipped to sixth in the voting with 148,487. Guerrero still leads all players with 1,745,105. There's no catching him.

Freddy Galvis is ninth among shortstops with 84,718 votes. No other Oriole is in the top 10.

The Red Sox's Alex Verdugo is one spot ahead of Mullins with 421,554. The Angels' Mike Trout ranks first, of course, with 1,371,004, followed by the Yankees' Aaron Judge with 1,030,139 and the Twins' Byron Buxton with 710,270.

The All-Star Game was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. Pitcher John Means was the lone Orioles representative in 2019 and didn't make it out of the bullpen.

Means is on the 10-day injured list with a strained left shoulder and probably won't be activated until around the break.

The Orioles haven't sent more than one player to the Midsummer Classic since 2016 with third baseman Manny Machado, catcher Matt Wieters, pitchers Zack Britton and Brad Brach and designated hitter Mark Trumbo.
