CINCINNATI - The Nationals have recalled infielder Trea Turner from Triple-A Syracuse andhas placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the paternity list. Turner has joined the team here and will be in uniform for tonight's first game of a three-game series.
Zimmerman's wife, Heather, welcomed their second child, a baby girl, on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Turner is the Nationals' No. 2 overall prospect, according to Baseball America. He is hitting .310 and has a .376 on-base percentage in 50 games at Triple-A, with 13 doubles, five triples, 17 stolen bases, 38 runs, three home runs and 24 RBIs.
Turner leads the International League in runs scored and stolen bases, and is second in hits with 61. He was named the International league Player of the Week for April 11-17 after hitting .433 with three doubles, one homer and five RBIs.
The 31-year-old Zimmerman is hitting .250 with 11 doubles, one triple, eight homers and 26 RBIs in 48 games this season.
