New O's scouting director looks to add Florida-area scout

New Orioles scouting director Gary Rajsich has only been on the job a few days, but says he'd like to hire some new amateur scouts by the end of the year. Rajsich said it appears his first O's scouting staff could be slightly larger than Joe Jordan's last one. "I would like to add a couple of guys to strengthen some areas that, in talking to our people, are areas where we might be light, staff-wise. I could add a couple of guys in those areas to make sure we cover it properly. Central Florida is one of those areas. It's a pretty big state and we want to make sure we cover it properly," Rajsich said. "As soon as we get our vacancies filled, and we get people in place where we want them, we will have enough staff. We may have a couple or few more than they've had in the past. Dan (Duquette) is a firm believer in the scouting department." Adding a scout in central Florida would be a nice upgrade for the Orioles, who in recent years have used one man to cover most of that state. Rajsich wants to change that. Fans have often questioned whether the Orioles have enough scouts or have concerns that other American League East teams have more than the Orioles. "We have enough to do our jobs. We need quality looks at guys and we will stress that with our scouts. Some teams have more scouts, that is just the way they prefer to do it. There is more than one way to do it. For our situation, we will have it covered," Rajsich said. He will also likely add a scout for the New England area. Keith Connolly, who was working that area, left the organization.
