No roster move today

Unless something changes abruptly, the Orioles won't make a roster move today. They're inclined to wait until tomorrow's off-day to place shortstop J.J. Hardy on the disabled list. Hardy is scheduled to undergo an MRI tomorrow after being diagnosed last night with a strained left oblique, an injury that routinely leads a player to the DL. The Orioles must decide on a corresponding roster move. It could involve a pitcher or backup catcher Craig Tatum. One reason why the Orioles don't feel compelled to adjust their roster today is that manager Buck Showalter believes he has enough available relievers to get through the series finale with the Texas Rangers. Jeremy Accardo would serve as the long man, capable of going three innings if necessary. Josh Rupe and Chris Jakubauskas covered enough innings last night in Game 2 to prevent the bullpen from entering a crisis stage. The lineup hasn't been posted, but we're assuming that Jeremy Guthrie will start today after getting through long-toss and a bullpen session without any glitches. He hasn't pitched since turning in eight scoreless innings in the April 1 season opener against the Rays at Tropicana Field.
