Notes on minor league movement and All-Star voting

The Orioles are moving up another pitching prospect.

Left-hander Kevin Smith, acquired from the Mets last summer in the Miguel Castro trade, has been promoted to Triple-A Norfolk.

Smith, 24, had a 1.04 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in six games (five starts) with Double-A Bowie. He struck out 37 batters in 26 innings.

MLBPipeline.com rates Smith as the No. 15 prospect in the Orioles minor league system.

Smith joins a Norfolk rotation that includes Zac Lowther (No. 9) and Kyle Bradish (No. 12).

Infielder Greg Cullen, 24, is advancing from low Single-A Delmarva to Bowie after batting .281/.439/.313 in 10 games. He was acquired from the Braves with infielder AJ Graffanino in the Tommy Milone deal.

Infielder Jean Carmona, 21, has been assigned to Delmarva. He was part of the return from the Brewers for Jonathan Schoop in 2018.

Carmona hasn't appeared in a game this year.

Diaz played in only six games with Norfolk before sustaining an injury to his hip/quadriceps. His last appearance was on May 9 in Jacksonville, when he doubled in the ninth inning.

MLBPipeline.com ranks Diaz as the organization's No. 8 prospect.

Catcher Nick Ciuffo is joining the Tides on Tuesday. He's been on the injured list after fracturing a bone in his right hand, the result of a hit-by-pitch in April.

Norfolk also has catchers Chance Sisco, Brett Cumberland and Taylor Davis on the roster.

The first-round results of All-Star Game balloting were announced today and Orioles first baseman Trey Mancini ranked fifth among American League outfielders with 76,840 votes.

The Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was first with 857,956 votes, followed by the White Sox's José Abreu (146,549), the Astros' Yuli Gurriel (130,188) and the Angels' Jared Walsh (114,904).

Outfielder Cedric Mullins was 10th among outfielders with 145,537 votes and shortstop Freddy Galvis was ninth among shortstops with 40,896.

No other Orioles placed in the top 10 at their positions.
