The start time for tonight's game between the Orioles and Marlins has been reset for 8:15 p.m. as players keep filtering into Camden Yards.
First pitch was slated for 7:35 p.m., but some Marlins had to be retested for COVID-19 due to inconclusive results and players were sent home or to their hotel rooms.
"A lot of parties are getting together to determine what time the game starts because this is an unusual circumstance," manager Brandon Hyde said earlier in the day on his Zoom conference call. "So it takes a lot of communication on everybody's part, make sure that everybody's going to be ready to go at a certain time and then they set a time."
A tropical storm couldn't keep the Orioles off the field, but nothing is easy in 2020.
"It was definitely wet this morning when I woke up, for sure," Hyde said. "I got word that there were some issues with the tests and that we were just going to be on hold and waited just like everybody else. I let the players know that we were on hold, let them know when they could get to the clubhouse and prepare to play, but we were just waiting to see what happens. And finally got word that we're good to go. So now we're here."
The Orioles had to prepare for a Marlins team that's undergone significant roster changes due to players being quarantined and sent back to Miami. Writing advance reports had to be an exhausting process.
"I still haven't seen their 30-man roster," Hyde said. "I do know quite a few of the players that are here, that I think are here, so we're familiar with a lot of them, from Corey Dickerson to, obviously, (Jonathan) Villar, (Jesús) Aguilar, guys like that. Logan Forsythe, who's now here, Matt Joyce, who's now here. So we're familiar with a lot of their guys. But really tough to prepare because unfamiliar with many as well.
"We didn't know the starter (Pablo López) tonight going in, somebody we prepared for last series when we were in Miami and potentially going to play whenever that was, last week. Not easy to prepare for a team that you're not sure exactly who's on their roster. You're kind of guessing and it's very, very unusual."
Alex Cobb is staring the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader and Asher Wojciechowski gets the nightcap.
Shortstop José Iglesias is available again to pinch-hit as the soreness in his left quadriceps muscle has been reduced. He can't shake his day-to-day status, however, and is kept off the field.
Rio Ruiz also is day-to-day due to a sore shoulder that forced him out of Sunday's lineup.
"Hopefully, he'll be back in a couple days," Hyde said.
Hyde doesn't think the injuries were caused by players rushing through the summer training camp after a long layoff. He had expressed concerns about soft-tissue injuries.
"I think these are injuries that would possibly happen anyway," he said. "I felt like we did a nice job in summer camp of ramping guys up correctly. Our medical team and our strength guys, Joe (Hogarty) and Ryo (Naito) were fantastic keeping up with our guys throughout the time when they were home. Both of those guys (Iglesias and Ruiz) came into camp in great shape and had a nice three weeks.
"Iggy had a setback a little bit with his back and the quad was just kind of a fluke thing where he was just trying to stretch something into a double in Boston and it just kind of stayed sore. But he's improving. He feels a lot better today. I would look to see him back out there really shortly."
Reliever Dillon Tate, who's on the injured list with a sore elbow, remains in a throwing progression at the alternate camp site in Bowie.
"He is, I would say, a couple weeks or less way if everything works out well, if everything goes smoothly in his rehab," Hyde said.
