Notes on Orioles' offense, Markakis, Cruz and Pearce

The Orioles are 8-11 on Sundays this season, but 5-4 on the road. So, I'm saying there's a chance. The Orioles are 23-17 in series finales this year, including 13-7 on the road. They're 10-4 in their last 14 series finales and have won four of the last five. markakis-high-fives-in-dugout-white-sidebar.jpgThe Orioles have been held to one run in the last two games, their lowest output in a two-game span since also totaling one run June 7-8, 2013 against the Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla. Boog Powell is celebrating his 73rd birthday today. Nick Markakis needs 56 hits to tie Powell for fifth on the Orioles' all-time list, further proof that I'm still counting. Powell's pit beef record remains intact. Markakis has hit in eight straight games, going 13-for-32 (.406) with two doubles, an RBI, five walks and six runs scored. He's played in every game this season. Nelson Cruz also has hit in eight straight games, going 10-for-30 (.333) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and two walks. He's the designated hitter today, with Delmon Young in left field. Steve Pearce is starting at first base today. He's 5-for-44 since July 19, but former Oriole Chris Dickerson robbed him of an extra-base hit last night.
