O'Day to receive Bob Feller Act of Valor Award

Orioles reliever Darren O'Day has been selected as one of the six recipients of the 2017 Bob Feller Act of Valor Award.

O'Day is joined by Tom Seaver, Chief Petty Officer Edmundo Brantes, Training Support Center Great Lakes, Unmanned Patrol Squadron ONE NINE (VUP-19) and Staff Sergeant Adam Plambeck.

The award is given each year to a player who reflects the values, integrity and dedication to serving our country that Bob Feller possessed.

The winners will be honored at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, DC on Thursday, Nov. 16.

"It is an incredible honor to receive this prestigious award," O'Day said in a statement released by the Orioles. "To be mentioned alongside Bob Feller, previous award winners and this year's candidates is truly humbling. My wife, Elizabeth, and I are grateful to have the opportunity and resources to be able to support the servicemen, women and their families who sacrifice so much for our country.

"Whether it is lifting the spirits of wounded veterans or hosting family members of those actively serving, we are committed to doing everything we can to offer our support."

O'Day and teammates make an annual visit to The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center when the Orioles are in D.C. to play the Nationals.

The reliever and his wife also lead the drive to send proceeds from the auctioning of July 4 uniforms to the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services for active duty service members and their families.

During the last homestand of the season, O'Day received the Oriole Way Award from the Oriole Advocates for his contributions to the local community.
