O's add Quintanilla to roster, Pearce designated for assignment

The Orioles today added infielder Omar Quintanilla (keen-tah-KNEE-uh) to their 25-man roster. To make room for Quintanilla, outfielder Steve Pearce has been designated for assignment. Quintanilla was acquired yesterday from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations. He has appeared in 256 games over seven major league seasons with the Rockies, Rangers and Mets and has a .993 career fielding percentage (two errors in 297 chances) in 106 games at second base and a .984 career fielding percentage (seven errors in 444 chances) in 119 games at shortstop. In 80 plate appearances with New York this year, Quintanilla has a .350 on-base percentage. For his career, Quintanilla is a .218 (129-592) hitter with three home runs and 38 RBI. Quintanilla will wear uniform No. 35. Pearce batted .254 (18-71) with 14 RBI in 28 games for the Orioles this season.
