O's game blog: Birds go for the sweep in Pittsburgh

After going through a stretch where they scored three runs or less in 12 of 20 games, the Orioles have scored 15 runs on 24 hits the past two games. The O's are batting .320 in those two games with two doubles and five homers. They are also 6-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Hey, it's a start. Chris Davis hit three homers last night against three different pitchers on just four pitches. He hit a two-run shot off Francisco Liriano on the first pitch in the fifth. He hit a solo homer in the seventh on the first pitch from Jared Hughes. He hit a solo shot in the ninth on Jeanmar Gomez's second pitch. Tonight's pitching matchup features Chris Tillman (4-2, 3.34 ERA) against left-hander Wandy Rodriguez (0-2, 6.84). Tillman is coming off the first shutout of his career when he five-hit Kansas City on 117 pitches on Friday night. Tillman has never won an interleague start, going 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA in seven career games against the National League. The O's are 4-3 in those games. Rodriguez came off the disabled list to start last Thursday against Milwaukee. He went five innings and gave up four hits and two runs, getting a no-decision. Since the start of last year, Rodriguez is 4-3 with a 2.90 ERA in home games. The Orioles are coming off a four-homer game and are facing a pitcher tonight that has allowed nine homers in just 25 innings in 2014 for a career-worst homer rate of 3.24 per every nine innings. He has allowed six in 14 innings over his past three starts. The Orioles are 3-0 against the Pirates this year, outscoring them 20-8. The O's have won six in a row over the Bucs dating to 2012, scoring 47 runs in those games.
