O's game blog: It's Gonzalez against Dickey in regular season finale

What began with a 2-1 win over Boston March 31 at Camden Yards will end today at Rogers Centre in Toronto - the Orioles' 2014 regular season. The Orioles (95-66) play Toronto (83-78) for the 19th time. They are 10-8 against the Blue Jays, going 6-4 at home and 4-4 on the road. Miguel Gonzalez (9-9, 3.33 ERA) makes his 26th start and pitches against R.A. Dickey (14-12, 3.78 ERA). Gonzalez is trying to give the Orioles four 10-game winners for the first time since 1997 when Mike Mussina, Scott Erickson, Jimmy Key and Scott Kamieniecki all won 10 or more. Gonzalez has tied a career-high by throwing 100 pitches or more in five straight starts. He has averaged 107 per game during that stretch while going 3-2 with a 1.85 ERA. In 36 career starts versus the American League East, Gonzalez is 15-9 with a 3.43 ERA. In 11 starts in the division this season, he is 4-2 with a 2.99 ERA and six quality starts. Dickey is finishing the season pitching well. In five September starts, he is 4-0 with a 2.65 ERA. Over 34 innings, he has allowed just 22 hits and two homers. The Orioles are 2-4 on this seven-game road trip and 45-35 on the road for the season. They have not been swept by any AL East team this season and need to win to avoid that today. Adam Jones hit his 29th homer on Saturday. With one more home run, he will become the fifth Oriole in club history with at least three 30-homer seasons, joining Eddie Murray (5), Rafael Palmeiro and Boog Powell (4), and Frank Robinson (3). If he homers today, Jones would join Palmeiro (four straight, 1995-98) as the only Orioles in team history to have three consecutive 30-homer seasons.
