O's game blog: Tillman looks for win No. 15 against Chicago

CHICAGO - With back-to-back road wins - the last game in Toronto and first game in Chicago - the Orioles look for three in a row tonight against the White Sox.

They won 7-5 last night as five players had multi-hit games and Pedro Alvarez homered twice. The Orioles had 16 hits - their most since 17 on June 28 at San Diego. Their seven runs was the most since July 29 when they scored 12 at San Diego.

The O's pinned a loss on former Oriole Miguel Gonzalez last night as Yovani Gallardo picked up his fourth win. Gallardo allowed two runs and seven hits over six innings in recording his third quality start in 14 outings.

On the mound tonight in Game 2 of this series, Chris Tillman (14-3, 3.46 ERA) pitches against lefty Carlos Rodon (2-8, 4.67 ERA).

Tillman allowed two runs and five hits over 5 2/3 innings Sunday at Toronto in his most recent start. He has given up two runs or fewer five times in his past six outings, going 4-1 with a 2.79 ERA and .219 average against. Tillman has been solid all year and he is consistent against both lefties and righties, yielding an average of .236 to lefty batters and .233 against right-handed hitters.

The Orioles are 19-4 in his 23 starts and 11-2 in his last 13. Tillman has made 11 starts versus American League East teams and the Orioles are 11-0. He has pitched seven or more innings nine times, including in four of his past six starts. With a win tonight, Tillman would tie Toronto's J.A. Happ for the AL lead.

Tillman is 3-1 with a 3.29 ERA in five career outings against the White Sox. He is 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA in three career starts at U.S. Cellular Field. He is making his first start against Chicago this season. Tillman is 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA and 24 strikeouts in four starts against the AL Central this season.

Rodon has gone 0-2 with an ERA of 7.41 his past three starts, allowing 14 earned runs and six homers in 17 innings. In nine home starts he is 1-4 with a 5.06 ERA. While he yields an average of just .210 versus lefty batters, right-handed hitters bat .319 with an OPS of .902 against him. He faced the Orioles on April 29 and gave up eight hits and six runs (four earned) over seven innings.
