Observations on Scott and Lee (and Wieters, Rapada)

Luke Scott was 0-for-8 against left-handers this season before homering off White Sox starter John Danks in the top of the fourth inning. Scott is a career .242 hitter in 476 at-bats against southpaws, compared to .275 in 1,612 at-bats against right-handers. Derrek Lee has hit safely in seven of his last nine games. He's got seven hits in his last 16 at-bats, with RBIs the last two nights. Down on the farm, second baseman Ryan Adams is 3-for-4 with an RBI for Triple-A Norfolk, raising his average to .289. Brendan Harris also has three hits. Ryan Drese is blanking Indianapolis on six hits over six innings. Former Oriole Brian Burres allowed seven runs and nine hits in four innings. Former Oriole Garrett Olson replaced him and allowed three runs and four hits, with three walks, in 2 2/3 innings. Instant update: Matt Wieters' two-run homer in the sixth has given the Orioles a 5-3 lead. Mark Reynolds struck out, but reached on a wild pitch to extend the inning, and Wieters followed with his fourth homer. Robert Andino has three hits and an error that could have been very costly. Jake Arrieta threw 86 pitches in five innings. He shut down the White Sox after the first inning. Nice recovery. Clay Rapada replaced him in the bottom of the sixth and almost gave up a home run to Adam Dunn. Rapada thought it was gone, but Nick Markakis made the catch at the fence. A.J. Pierzynski lined to short and Brent Lillibridge homered to reduce the lead to 5-4. Rapada continues to struggle since a nice three-strikeout debut.
