Series breakdown
Owners of one of the best offenses and pitching staffs in the National League, the NL Central-leading Brewers welcome the Orioles to Miller Park for the teams' first meeting since 2008.

Milwaukee ranks fifth in the NL with 199 runs, a .251 average and 50 homers while standing sixth with a 3.29 ERA.

The Brewers boast two of the NL's top 10 qualified leaders in OPS with center fielder Carlos Gomez ranked fifth at .975 and catcher Jonathan Lucroy 10th at .891. Right fielder Ryan Braun is also having a fine season with an .897 OPS, but doesn't qualify because of a strained oblique that has limited him to 33 games.

Milwaukee pairs a quality pitching staff with its assortment of bats, ranking fifth in the NL with a 3.35 starters' ERA and sixth with a 3.17 bullpen ERA.

The Brewers will start two of their top three starters in the series with the premier matchup coming in today's Memorial Day matinee, when right-hander Kyle Lohse seeks his seventh win against Orioles ace Chris Tillman. Lohse has the second-best ERA in the rotation with a 2.67 ERA.

Right-hander Matt Garza (4.92 ERA) looks to get a rough season going in the right direction when pitching against Wei-Yin Chen on Tuesday. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo (3.51 ERA) takes on Bud Norris in the series finale.

Left-hander Will Smith and closer Francisco Rodriguez have led the bullpen. Smith has held opponents to one earned run in 22 2/3 innings for a 0.40 ERA. K-Rod has converted 17 of his 18 save chances while posting a 1.80 ERA.

Milwaukee comes into the series having win two of three from the Marlins after losing five of its previous six.

So the Brewers are inching back toward an upswing while boasting the kind of balance that could give the Orioles all they can handle over the next three days.
