Orioles acquire Jason Stoffel from Astros (Tyler Wilson update)

The Orioles announced two minor league trades this afternoon aimed at improving their pitching depth.

The Orioles acquired right-hander Jason Stoffel from the Astros in exchange for cash considerations. He's been assigned to Double-A Bowie. They also confirmed the acquisition of right-hander Matt Buschmann from the Reds in exchange for cash considerations. He's been assigned to Triple-A Norfolk.

Buck Showalter and Dan Duqette.jpgStoffel, 26, was 4-2 with a 4.91 ERA in 35 appearances at Triple-A Fresno. He walked 18 and struck out 50 in 44 innings.

Stoffel, the Giants' fourth-round draft pick in 2009 out of the University of Arizona, is 24-17 with a 3.55 ERA in 315 relief appearances over seven minor league seasons.

Buschmann, 31, was selected by the Padres in the 15th round of the 2006 draft out of Vanderbilt University. He's 84-69 with a 4.09 ERA in 281 games, including 214 starts, over 10 minor league seasons.

Buschmann was 6-5 with a 3.89 ERA in 13 starts at Triple-A Durham this season before opting out of his contract and signing with the Reds. He was 2-5 with a 4.25 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A Louisville.

Bowie could use an extra reliever with Mychal Givens returning to the Orioles yesterday. Norfolk is running short on starters with Tyler Wilson headed to the disabled list with an oblique injury.

Update: Wilson's MRI showed a mild strain of his left oblique, according to a club official.
