Orioles and Angels lineups in Anaheim

The Orioles begin their series in Anaheim tonight with Adley Rutschman out of the lineup for the second time in six games.

The Angels are starting three left-handers, and Austin Hays moves into the leadoff spot tonight. Gunnar Henderson is playing third base and batting cleanup.

Jordan Westburg is playing second base and batting fifth. Jorge Mateo is the shortstop.

Aaron Hicks is in right field, and Anthony Santander is the designated hitter.

Rookie Grayson Rodriguez has allowed 11 runs in his last seven starts over 42 2/3 innings. He faced the Angels on May 15, before his reset, and allowed eight runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. Shohei Ohtani and Chad Wallach homered in the fourth.

The Orioles are 29-15 in series openers and 16-6 in road openers. They’ve won eight of their last 11 games and 11 of 15. They began today 2 ½ games ahead of the second-place Rays in the division race.

Baltimore’s 43-25 (.632) road record is second best in the majors behind Atlanta (46-24, .657) and second best in franchise history after the 1997 club went 52-29 (.642). The 43 wins are fourth most in franchise history after the 1997 team, the 2012 team (46) and the 2014 club (46).

The Orioles won two of three against the Angels last year in Anaheim. They’ve won 10 of the last 13 games dating back to August 2021.

The last three-game sweep in Anaheim was in 2010. The teams split a four-game series at Camden Yards in May.

Another example of the Orioles taking care of business: They’re 41-19 against sub-.500 teams, third best in the majors.

The .683 winning percentage would be their best in a season since 1979 (37-11, .771), per STATS.

Manager Brandon Hyde needs one more win to become the fifth Oriole to reach 300. He’s set to join Earl Weaver (1,480), Buck Showalter (669), Paul Richards (517) and Hank Bauer (407).

Left-hander Kenny Rosenberg is making his second major league start and sixth appearance with the Angels. He’s worked twice in relief this season, allowing five runs and nine hits with seven walks in seven innings.

The Angels threw in the towel, losing Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo López, Matt Moore, Hunter Renfroe and Dominic Leone on waiver claims and sitting in fourth place in the American League West with a 64-73 record. They’re 32-33 at home.

The Angels were 56-51 through July 31 and 4 1/2 games out of first place. Since August, they’ve gone 8-22, tied with the Rockies for worst in the majors. They’re on pace for their eighth straight losing season, the longest active streak in the majors.

The Red Sox claimed pitcher Logan Gillaspie on waivers and assigned him to Triple-A Worcester. The Orioles designated him for assignment over the weekend.
