Orioles and Cardinals lineups

After going 7-2 on their road trip, the Orioles begin their penultimate homestand of the season with a three-game series against the Cardinals.

This is the first Cardinals visit to Baltimore since 2017, when the Orioles lost the first game 11-2 and won the next two 15-7 and 8-5.

Jordan Westburg came out of Saturday’s game in the seventh inning and wasn’t in yesterday’s lineup. He’s on the bench again tonight.

"Everybody's got little things going on right now," manager Brandon Hyde said on Saturday, adding yesterday that he didn’t have any other updates.

Austin Hays also is a reserve. Aaron Hicks is in left field.

Ryan O’Hearn is the right fielder.

Dean Kremer has never faced the Cardinals. He’s posted a 2.86 ERA in 10 second-half starts.

The Orioles have won Kremer’s last seven starts at home. The only other Orioles starters with longer streaks over the past 10 years are Chris Tillman (13 and nine) and Austin Voth (eight), per STATS.

The Orioles’ defense committed five errors in the last two games in Boston. It’s registered three-plus errors in only three games.

Per STATS, the Orioles are the first team in major league history to have a 90-win season within two years of a 110-loss campaign. They’re only the second team in the modern era to improve their winning percentage by 300-plus points in that span, joining the 1902 New York Giants.

Cardinals right-hander Dakota Hudson, the 34^th overall pick in the 2016 draft out of Mississippi State, is 6-1 with a 4.43 ERA and 1.361 WHIP in 14 games, including eight starts. He’s struck out only 35 batters in 61 innings.

Hudson has never faced the Orioles. Adam Frazier is 3-for-10 against him, and O’Hearn is 3-for-7 with a double.

The Cardinals are a major disappointment this season, sitting in last place in the National League Central with a 63-80 record. They have 40 losses at home and on the road.

The Orioles won two of three games against the Cardinals last season in St. Louis. The Cardinals swept the Orioles in a three-game series at Camden Yards in 2011.

St. Louis has allowed three runs or more in 23 consecutive games, its third-longest streak behind the 1929 (35) and 1903 (26) teams, according to STATS.
