Orioles and White Sox lineups (updated)

The Orioles are back to having 26 players on their active roster after reinstating reliever Dillon Tate from the injured list this afternoon.

Tate was on the IL with a strained left hamstring. He threw a spotless inning Tuesday night with Triple-A Norfolk in his only rehab game, striking out one batter and throwing only nine pitches.

The roster had an opening after the Orioles optioned starter Dean Kremer to Norfolk yesterday morning.

"I'm happy to have Dillon back because Dillon's a guy that the last couple years has done a nice job against right-handed hitters and that's something that we've had a little trouble with here the last couple weeks since he's been gone," manager Brandon Hyde said in his Zoom call. "He's a nice right-on-right option against a lot of these right-handed hitting teams that we're facing. ... Hopefully he's going to contribute and be a big weapon for us out of the 'pen."

Ryan Mountcastle remains out of the lineup for tonight's game against the White Sox in Chicago. He's day-to-day with a bruised left hand.

"The hand's still sore," Hyde said. "Right now he's testing it in the cage. We'll see if he's available off the bench tonight or not. Where it got him in the hand, it's kind of where the bat rests, and so it's a tender spot. Hopefully he'll be available off the bench. He's just day-to-day at this point."

Ryan McKenna is in left field and DJ Stewart is in right. Anthony Santander is the designated hitter.

Chance Sisco is catching again.

"This is the second start in a row," Hyde said. "I wanted a lefty against (Dylan) Cease. I like the way he caught yesterday, also. I thought he did a really nice job behind the plate. I thought the swings were a little more aggressive, and just trying to get him going a little bit and give him two days in a row."

Maikel Franco is batting cleanup, followed by Freddy Galvis.

Rookie Bruce Zimmermann has registered a 5.59 ERA and 1.552 WHIP in eight games, including seven starts. He's surrendered nine home runs in 38 2/3 innings.

Left-handers are 13-for-36 (.361) with a double and two home runs against Zimmemann.

Cease, the Cubs' sixth-round pick in 2014 out of Milton High School in Georgia, has registered a 3.18 ERA and 1.301 WHIP in nine starts. He's averaging 4.8 walks and 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Cease's ERA was 2.41 until his last start, when he allowed five runs against the Yankees in 4 1/3 innings. He surrendered five hits and walked four batters.

Cease has never faced the Orioles.

The Orioles have lost nine games in a row and 16 of 18. Reliever Paul Fry is in his fourth season with the team and the defeats are piling up.

"Losing is getting harder," Fry said today on his Zoom call. "We want to win. This group that we have is outstanding. We're starting to take these losses personally. It's a rebuild, but things will turn around soon and we're all working hard every day.

"The losing stinks, but it is what it is."
