Orioles announce broadcast team for 2020 season

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles are adding three new voices to their expanded broadcast team for the 2020 season, with the announcement coming earlier today.

Scott Garceau, longtime broadcaster in Baltimore who's been hosting the "Scott and Jeremy Show" on 105.7 The Fan, will handle some of the play-by-play duties as he enters his 40th year in the area's sports landscape. He had spent 13 years as television play-by-play announcer, often teaming with Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, and was part of the crew during the 1983 World Series championship season.

Geoff Arnold and Melanie Newman, lead radio voices for the Single-A Frederick Keys and Salem Red Sox, respectively, have been hired to serve on the broadcast team.

Arnold, 32, spent the last five years as the Keys' director of broadcasting and public relations.

"I think part of it is that as the Orioles are going through this rebuild process, you have a lot of great prospects coming up through the system, many of whom I've seen already and have relationships with. A number of whom that are on the rise that are kind of getting their way there and I know a lot of those guys, as well," Arnold said earlier today while meeting with the spring training media.

"I've kind of seen their ups and down as they've started in Frederick and also learning their stories and being able to pass along some different anecdotes that people might find interesting and help to learn these guys. Because you might be able to rattle off a lot of facts about Mike Trout, but you may not be able to do the same thing about a guy like (infielder) Mason McCoy - at least just yet. So to be able to tell their stories and explain where they've been and where they're going, I think I can provide a little more perspective as to that."

Newman previously worked with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders and Mobile BayBears, serving as play-by-play announcer, reporter and host. She's also covered Liberty University football as the team's sideline reporter and has covered various sports for the ACC Network, ESPN, GameDay Radio and Major League Baseball Data Operations.

Expect her to move around in a variety of roles as the Orioles tap into her broadcast versatility.

Palmer returns for his 28th season as an analyst and 57th in the organization. Thorne is back for a 14th season and Brown for a second.

Brown stayed on the radio side last year but will handle some MASN broadcasts this summer.

Jim Hunter, hired prior to the 1997 season, no longer will be in the television and radio booths as play-by-play announcer. The club says Hunter and Tom Davis, who hosted O's Xtra on MASN, "will bring their decades of Orioles experience to new roles as regular on-air contributors in 2020."

Mancano will continue to host "MASN All-Access," the network's digital show that airs on Facebook Live, and appear on other platforms throughout the season.

Lots of moving broadcast parts.

The first MASN spring training broadcast is Sunday's home opener against the Red Sox. The first radio broadcast is Feb. 25.
