Orioles can't climb out of big early hole in latest loss to Yankees

There were more New York Yankees homers. The O's starter didn't pitch deep into the game. The Orioles lost to the Yankees again at Oriole Park with a familiar script.

Swept here three straight by New York early last month, the Orioles lost 7-5 tonight and have lost the first three of a four-game series that concludes Thursday afternoon.

Struggling right-hander Dan Straily got hit around again at Camden Yards as New York opened a 6-1 lead in the fourth. Straily lasted just four innings and gave up eight hits and six runs on four homers. He falls to 1-4 with a 9.09 ERA, and the Orioles are 1-7 in his starts, losing six in a row.

Thairo Estrada and DJ LeMahieu each hit two-run homers off him, giving New York a 4-0 lead in the second. Straily gave up a solo homer to Gleyber Torres in the third, and to Gary Sánchez in the fourth.

Torres would add a solo shot off Gabriel Ynoa in the fifth for his fourth multi-homer game of the year, all of them against Baltimore pitching. Torres has 12 homers this year and has hit 10 against the Orioles. Sánchez has 15 homers - nine against Baltimore.

The Yankees (31-17) are 6-0 this season at Camden Yards, and they've scored 57 runs and hit 25 homers in those games. The Yankees have hit three or more homers each game in Baltimore this season.

Down 6-1 heading to the last of the fourth, the Orioles rallied. They had scored their first run on Hanser Alberto's double in the third and made it 6-2 on an unearned run in the fourth.

Richie Martin hit his first major league homer as part of a three-run fifth that pulled the Orioles within 7-5. He hit a first-pitch sinker from CC Sabathia out to left to make it 7-3. Renato Núñez blasted a two-run homer later in the frame. He hit No. 9 for a 7-5 game.

Sabathia would get his 249th career win despite a pitching line that showed five runs (four earned) and six hits over five innings. He is 3-1 with a 3.48 ERA this season.

The Yankees improved to 9-2 this year versus the Orioles. They have won eight of their last nine games, and since April 19 are a major leagues-best 23-7. They are 8-1 in their past nine American League East games.

Baltimore (15-34) has lost a season-high five straight, along with eight of nine and 18 of 23. The Orioles' starter went 5 1/3 or fewer innings for the 35th time.

The Orioles will be swept four straight here if they fail to win the finale, which starts at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday. Right-hander Dylan Bundy (2-5, 4.66 ERA) faces righty Masahiro Tanaka (3-3, 3.09 ERA).
