The Orioles today announced that they have claimed left-hander Edgar Olmos off waivers from the Chicago Cubs. To make room on the 40-man roster, outfielder Junior Lake has been designated for assignment.
Olmos, 25, went 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA (13 ER/33.0 IP) and 34 strikeouts in 20 games (two starts) with Triple-A Tacoma and pitched in six games (two starts) with the Seattle Mariners, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (seven earned runs/14.0 innings pitched) in 2015. In 199 career minor league games (73 starts), he has gone 16-38 with a 4.44 ERA (258 earned runs/522.2 innings pitched) and 449 strikeouts. Olmos has pitched in 11 career major league games (two starts), going 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA (11 earned runs/19.0 innings pitched).
Lake, 25, batted .200/.238/.325 with a home run and five RBI in 29 games between the Orioles and Cubs last season after being acquired by Baltimore on July 31.
