"Orioles Classics" #TBT: Powerful bats, precise pitching and a fond farewell

Temperatures are cooler, the hot stove is starting to flicker and Baltimore baseball fans are going through some serious hardball withdrawal. Let's face it, mid-February and spring training feel like forever away.

If you're longing for the sounds of summer - ball hitting mitt, bat meeting ball, the roar of the crowd - MASN has you covered. "Orioles Classics" are the perfect way for die-hard fans to get through the long offseason, to give them a chance to relive past memories and perhaps get a glimpse of the future.

So we'll kick off another fall and winter of "Orioles Classics" with a quartet of games featuring home run power, precise pitching and some of the greatest players ever to don the orange and black.

Thursday, Nov. 7 - 11 a.m. - Manny Machado's arrival in the big leagues in August 2012 was a bit of a surprise, as was the fact that the Orioles played him at the hot corner instead of his customary spot at shortstop. Well, Machado didn't seem to trifle with the transition, and in his second major league game on Aug. 12, he flashed some of the power folks at Camden Yards would come to expect. Machado went deep twice off the Royals' Luke Hochevar in a 7-1 rout of K.C.

Monday, Nov. 11 - 12:30 a.m. - This one's for the insomniacs in Birdland, so don your jammies and tune in to see this Chris Davis explosion from Aug. 15, 2015. En route to a major-league leading 47 home runs, Davis crushed a pair of longballs off A's pitching. And showing a flair for the dramatic, he connected off switch-pitcher Pat Venditte with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off Orioles victory.

Tuesday, Nov. 12 - 9 a.m. - We're charging up the wayback machine for the first of two games today. On July 13, 1991, four O's pitchers combined to no-hit the A's in Oakland. You'll see a couple of future Birds in the A's order, Harold Baines and Mike Bordick, along with former O's backstop Jamie Quirk. But they weren't a match for a string of zeros put up by Bob Milacki, who worked the first six frames before an inning each of spotless relief from Mike Flanagan, Mark Williamson and Gregg Olson. Mike Devereaux and Chris Hoiles drove in a run apiece in the 2-0 victory.

Tuesday, Nov. 12 - 7 p.m. - This classic is of a more recent vintage, the final game of the 2018 campaign, when three O's hurlers combined for a one-hitter in a 4-0 triumph over the Astros. Jimmy Yacabonis allowed the only hit the Astros mustered, a leadoff single by Jose Altuve leading off the fourth, while Paul Fry followed with three scoreless fames and Mychal Givens finished things off with a 1-2-3 ninth. RBIs by Trey Mancini, Tim Beckham and Renato Núñez helped make Adam Jones' final game in an Orioles uniform and Buck Showalter's last contest at the team's helm a winning one.
