Orioles DFA Brad Bergesen (Twins lineup and notes)

The Orioles officially recalled Tommy Hunter from Triple-A Norfolk today and designated reliever Brad Bergesen for assignment. Hunter is starting tonight against the Twins. Bergesen is wondering again where his career is headed. Bergesen had his contract purchased yesterday because the Orioles needed a long reliever, but he didn't get into last night's game. Bergesen is 4-3 with a 4.03 ERA and one save in 22 games (10 starts) with Norfolk this season, with 90 hits, 23 walks and 41 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings. The Orioles designated Bergesen for assignment back on May 12 to make room for infielder/outfielder Bill Hall on the 40-man roster, and they outrighted him five days later. Today's move leaves the Orioles with 39 players on their 40-man roster. For the Twins: Denard Span CF Ben Revere RF Joe Mauer DH Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau 1B Trevor Plouffe 3B Brian Dozier SS Drew Butera C Jamey Carroll 2B Francisco Liriano LHP The Orioles list their starters for the next five games as Wei-Yin Chen tomorrow afternoon, Miguel Gonzalez Friday night in Cleveland, Chris Tillman Saturday night, Zach Britton Sunday afternoon and Hunter Monday night. In their last 17 games since June 27, the Orioles' starting pitchers have recorded just 252 outs, an average of 14.8 per start. In those 17 games, the bullpen has recorded 204 outs, an average of 12 per game. The Orioles are 9-for-52 (.173) with runners in scoring position in the last seven games. Nick Markakis is batting .435 (10-for 23) with four doubles, a home run, five runs scored and a 1.089 OPS in the leadoff spot. J.J. Hardy is 5-for-62 (.081) since homering on June 28 against the Indians. He was 0-for-28 before that home run, and he's 1-for-11 since connecting in the bottom of the 13th inning. The Orioles are third in the majors with 112 home runs, trailing the Yankees (145) and Blue Jays (131). They're 41-24 when homering and 5-20 when they don't hit one.
