Orioles' fourth-round pick reports to Aberdeen

The Orioles 2011 fourth-round draft choice, pitcher Kyle Simon, has been added to the short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds roster. Catcher Kyle Moore has also been transferred from the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds to Aberdeen. Simon just wrapped up his junior season at the University of Arizona. He was an All-Pac-10 honoree after going 11-3 with a 2.72 ERA and an 86-to-11 strikeout to walk ratio. Here are a couple of other notes about the IronBirds who are hosting Vermont tonight. Since a 2-17 start, Aberdeen is 7-5 and has won three straight series. The Birds are batting .311 their last five games. Baltimorean Joe Velleggia, a 40th-round pick last year out of Old Dominion, is on a six-game hitting tear. During that stretch he is 14-for-27 with three homers and eight RBIs. Glynn Davis has a nine-game batting streak, raising his average from .189 to .270. Catcher Adam Davis, this year's 11th-round pick out of the University of Illinois, has gone on the disabled list. This year's third-round pick, pitcher Mike Wright out of East Carolina, has made three appearances for Aberdeen. In the first, he pitched two shutout innings, then he gave up two runs in four innings. In his most recent outing on Sunday, he went five innings and allowed six hits and two runs.
