Orioles going for the sweep today

Manager Buck Showalter most assuredly told reporters in Kansas City to "sleep fast." The Orioles have a day game after a night game that ended in the early morning. That's a quick turnaround. The Orioles were down by two runs in the top of the ninth, but they tied the game and won it in 15 innings on Adam Jones' 12th home run of the season. The Orioles are 11-1 when Jones hits a home run. Nine of those homers have tied the game or given them a lead. Cha-ching! Didn't Tommy Hunter also start the 17-inning game in Boston? What's up with that? Kevin Gregg picked up his first win last night and lowered his ERA to 3.75. He hasn't allowed a run in his last six appearances, surrendering three hits, walking three and striking out eight. The bullpen could have been fried, but Gregg and Eveland combined for five scoreless innings after Darren O'Day struck out two in a scoreless ninth. The Orioles are 12-5 on the road and 16-7 in their last 23 games. And they're 7-1 against the American League Central this season and 14-3 dating back to Aug. 14, 2011. MASN shared this gem on O's Xtra: The Orioles have their first six-game road winning streak since 2004. Brian Matusz will oppose Luke Hockevar this afternoon, as the Orioles go for the two-game sweep and improve to 13-3-2 in their last 18 series since Sept. 12, 2011. Matusz has made one career start against the Royals, which produced an odd-looking line. He allowed five runs and two hits, walked four and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings. The Royals batted .182 against him. Hochevar hasn't had much success against the Orioles, going 1-4 with a 6.63 ERA in six starts. Jones is 6-for-15 with three doubles and four RBIs lifetime against Hochevar. If he's on your fantasy team, you might want to start him. Chris Davis is 2-for-7 with a home run. J.J. Hardy is 1-for-13.
