Orioles lineup vs. Nationals in series opening game at Camden Yards

Coby Mayo is out of the Orioles lineup for tonight’s series opener against the Nationals at Camden Yards.

Ramón Urías gets the start at third base. Ryan O’Hearn is serving as the designated hitter.

Colton Cowser is in left field, Cedric Mullins is in center and Anthony Santander is in right.

Left-hander Trevor Rogers is making his third start with the Orioles after allowing seven earned runs and eight total in 9 1/3 innings. He’s faced the Nationals twice this season with the Marlins and allowed five runs in 12 innings.

Rogers has made 10 career starts against Washington and posted a 3.35 ERA and 1.283 WHIP in 48 1/3 innings. He’s never allowed more than three earned runs.

Santander has hit 35 home runs in 114 games, the fourth-fewest games in club history, per STATS. Chris Davis needed 93, Brady Anderson 102 and Jim Gentile 105.

The Orioles lead the Yankees by a half-game in the division. Their 70-49 record is tied with the Guardians and Dodgers for the best in baseball.

The Orioles went 4-0 against the Nationals last year and split two games in D.C. this season. They lead the all-time series 62-49.

Here’s more from STATS: The Orioles have gone 11-5 against the Nationals since the start of 2021, including a 6-1 record in Baltimore. The pitching staff has a 1.80 ERA in the seven games at Camden Yards during that span and has held the Nats to a .165 average.

The Orioles have gone 14-18 in interleague play this season and are the only team in the majors with a winning percentage at least 200 points higher against American League opponents than the National League.

The Nationals are starting right-hander Jake Irvin, who’s 8-10 with a 3.76 ERA and 1.122 WHIP in 24 games. He’s made two starts this month and allowed nine runs and 14 hits in 10 2/3 innings.

Irvin hasn’t faced the Orioles in his two major league seasons.

The Nationals are in fourth place in the National League East with a 54-65 record. They’ve lost nine of their last 14 games.

Washington is allowing 5.82 runs per game since the break, most in the NL and third-most in the majors.
