Orioles place Simon on Restricted list, recall Bell, select contract of Worrell

The Orioles today announced that they have placed RHP Alfredo Simon on the Restricted List, recalled third baseman Josh Bell from Triple-A Norfolk and selected the contract of RHP Mark Worrell from the Tides. Bell, 24, batted .254 with 52 runs, 11 doubles and a team-high 16 home runs and 47 RBI in 86 games for Norfolk this season. He has batted .214 in 53 career major league games, all with the Orioles last season. A 2011 International League All-Star, Worrell, 28, pitched to a 2.95 ERA with 12 saves in 35 games for the Tides after signing as a minor league free agent prior to this season. He appeared in four major league games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008, allowing five earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched (7.94 ERA). Simon, 30, is 2-2 with a 4.36 ERA in nine games (two starts) for the Orioles this season.
