Orioles Re-Sign Mark Hendrickson

The Orioles today announced that they have re-signed free agent LHP MARK HENDRICKSON to a one-year contract for the 2010 season with a club option for the 2011 season. Hendrickson is the only major league pitcher to make at least 10 starts and five relief appearances in each of the last four seasons. In his eight major league seasons, Hendrickson is 56-68 with a 5.00 ERA (1079.2IP, 602ER) in 268 games. In his 103 relief appearances in the big leagues, he has a 3.40 ERA (158.2IP, 60ER). Hendrickson, who resides in York, Pennsylvania, made his major league debut with Toronto in 2002, and in addition to his time with the Marlins and Blue Jays, has seen major league action with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hendrickson was a second round draft pick by the National Basketball Association's Philadelphia 76ers in 1996 out of Washington State University and played four years in the NBA with four different teams (Cleveland Cavaliers, New Jersey Nets, Sacramento Kings and the 76ers). He is one of 12 athletes to play in the NBA and Major League Baseball. The 6'9" left-hander is the tallest player in Orioles history and will wear jersey number 27. To make room on the 40-man roster for Hendrickson, the Orioles designated RHP ARMANDO GABINO for assignment. Gabino was claimed on waivers from the Minnesota Twins on November 9, 2009. The Orioles also announced today they have signed LHP WILL OHMAN to a minor league contract and invited him to major league spring training camp. Ohman, 32, was 1-0 with one save and a 5.84 ERA (12.1IP, 8ER) in 21 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2009 before being placed on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation on May 28. On July 30, he was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. In 324 major league appearances with the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers, Ohman is 11-9 with a 4.25 ERA (231.0IP, 109ER) and has held left-handed batters to a .204 average (85-417). Ohman will wear uniform number 13 at spring training.
