The Orioles have gone from a three-man to a five-man bench in the matter of a few days.
Yesterday, they recalled catcher Steve Clevenger from Triple-A Norfolk. Today, it's infielder Jimmy Paredes.
The Orioles selected Paredes off waivers from the Marlins on Feb. 15 and lost him two days later to the Royals on another waiver claim. They purchased him from the Royals on July 24.
Paredes is batting .258/.286/.394 with seven doubles, one triple, three homers and 23 RBIs in 32 games with the Tides. He can pretty much play every position on the field. Just don't ask him to pitch or catch unless it's a real emergency.
Paredes is a career .233/.272/.308 hitter in 127 games over parts of four majors league seasons with the Astros and Royals.
The Orioles optioned Kevin Gausman to the Gulf Coast League team after last night's game. Paredes, who is wearing No. 38, takes his spot on the 25-man roster.
Steve Clevenger is serving as the designated hitter tonight in the series finale against the Rays. Chris Davis moves up to fifth in the order.
