Twenty-five years is a major milestone in any person's life. It marks the quarter-century mark of your lifetime and, if you're a recent college graduate like me, it means you can't really identify as a "youth" anymore.
The same can be said about ballparks, as the Orioles announced they will be celebrating the 25th anniversary season at Oriole Park at Camden Yards with a commemorative logo on game baseballs and jerseys during the 2017 season. The logo will be printed on all official Rawlings Major League Baseballs used at home games and will be featured on all Orioles jerseys throughout next season.
The 25th anniversary commemorative logo features a silver numerical 25 on a brick background (an obvious nod to the iconic B&O Warehouse) within a diamond (an obvious nod to, well, baseball) with the ballpark's name and the years 1992 and 2017. The logo pays homage to the original OPACY logo used by the club when the ballpark first opened way back before I was born (eight days to be exact).
OPACY became the official home of the Orioles on April 6, 1992, helping to inspire a renaissance of ballpark construction. Also referred to as "The Ballpark That Forever Changed Baseball," Oriole Park at Camden Yards has welcomed over 67 million fans and has been a landmark in Baltimore for more than 980,000 tourists. During the 2008 season, OPACY became the fastest ballpark in the history of baseball to welcome 50 million fans, a record that stood until the Giants broke it at AT&T Park during the 2015 season.
The Orioles' 2017 regular season begins on April 3 at Oriole Park. For more information about Oriole Park at Camden Yards or to schedule a tour, visit www.orioles.com/ballpark.
