Orioles close out series vs. Mariners

The Orioles' lineup for today's series finale against the Mariners isn't expected to include first baseman Chris Davis. Manager Buck Showalter hinted yesterday that Davis would sit against left-hander J.A. Happ after he started last night against lefty Roenis Elias.

Pick your southpaw poison.

Davis was 1-for-22 in his last seven games before doubling last night in the seventh inning. He struck out twice to raise his total to 57 in 36 games.

Chris Tillman is making his first appearance since May 12 due to tightness in his lower back. He's 2-5 with a 6.34 ERA in seven starts.

In his last two outings, Tillman has allowed nine runs and 19 hits in 12 1/3 innings. However, he's 13-4 with a 3.48 ERA in 27 career starts on six or more days rest.

More impressive, Tillman is 6-0 with a 2.03 ERA in six career starts against the Mariners. He shut them out over seven innings last season, walking none and striking out six in a 1-0 win on Aug. 3.

Could there be a better pairing for the Orioles?

Robinson Cano is an exception, going 12-for-28 (.429) with two home runs and eight RBIs against Tillman. Kyle Seager is 2-for-13, Dustin Ackley is 1-for-12 and Nelson Cruz is 1-for-8 with a home run and four strikeouts.

Happ is 3-1 with a 2.98 ERA in seven starts this season, with one earned run or fewer allowed in three of his last four outings and two or fewer allowed in six.

Happ is 2-3 with a 2.93 ERA in eight games (seven starts) against the Orioles and 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA in three starts at Camden Yards. Adam Jones is 7-for-23 (.304) with a double and home run against him. Steve Pearce is 6-for-18 (.333) with two doubles and two home runs.

J.J. Hardy is 3-for-17 with three doubles, Delmon Young is 4-for-19, Manny Machado is 2-for-12 and Davis is 1-for-6 with a double.

Machado registered his 10th multi-hit game of the season last night and has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games, batting .328/.381/.500.

Jones logged his team-leading 13th multi-hit game after going 3-for-4 last night.
