Orioles need 2015 version of Jimenez vs. Angels

The Orioles will go for the sweep today in Anaheim while also hoping for the better version of Ubaldo Jimenez.

In his last two starts, Jimenez has allowed 11 runs (10 earned) and 14 hits in 9 1/3 innings. He's also walked eight batters and is averaging 4.8 per nine innings.

Left-handers are batting .345 against Jimenez this season. Right-handers are hitting .268.

Jimenez is 1-5 with a 4.28 ERA in six career starts against the Angels. He's 1-2 with a 5.68 ERA in three starts in Anaheim.

In his most recent visit on Aug. 8, 2015, Jimenez shut out the Angels on two hits over eight innings and walked only one batter. Three months earlier in Baltimore, he held the Angels to two runs over seven innings and didn't walk a batter.

Combine the two starts, and Jimenez was 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA and 0.733 WHIP in 15 innings.

The current Angels are batting .229 (25-for-109) against Jimenez. Yunel Escobar, who drove in the Angels' only run last night off Kevin Gausman to break a scoreless tie in the seventh, is 8-for-23 with a double and home run.

Albert Pujols is 7-for-25 with a double, home run and eight RBIs. Mike Trout is 3-for-12 with a double and five strikeouts.

Jered Weaver has allowed 19 hits in last two starts over 11 innings. For the season, he's posted a 5.76 ERA and 1.610 WHIP in eight starts over 45 1/3 innings.

Weaver is 8-4 with a 3.29 ERA and 1.000 WHIP in 14 career starts against the Orioles covering 93 innings.

The current Orioles also are batting .229 (27-for-118) against Weaver. Weird coincidence, right? I don't think it qualifies as irony.

Adam Jones, who snapped an 0-for-18 spell with a single last night, is 8-for-28 with a double, triple and two home runs against Weaver.

Matt Wieters, who celebrated his 30th birthday last night with a three-run homer off Joe Smith with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Orioles a 3-1 victory, is 8-for-13 with two home runs and five RBIs in his last three games. He'll be on the bench today after catching on back-to-back nights.

The Orioles are listing Chris Tillman, TBD and Gausman as starters for the series in Houston that begins Tuesday. The Astros are listing Doug Fister, Collin McHugh and Lance McCullers.
