P-Nats make big comeback for win; Nats struggle with bases loaded

PotomacStadium.jpgThe high Single-A Potomac Nationals made the comeback of the day, downing Lynchburg 8-4 in 10 innings. The P-Nats scored three in eighth and four in the ninth, their third straight come-from-behind victory. Telmito Agustin went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Jake Noll, Ian Sagdal and Jakson Reetz each had two hits. James Bourque (2-1) tossed two scoreless innings, allowing no hits with two walks and five strikeouts for the win.

* Low Single-A Hagerstown Suns second baseman Branden Boggetto had 10 hits this week, capped off by a 3-for-4 performance, two RBIs against the Rome Braves in a 6-3 loss Sunday. He is hiting .412 in his last 10 games, with one homer and eight RBIs. His season slash line is .429/.459/.686 in 11 games. Boggetto, 24, was a 25th round selection in the 2016 draft out of Southeast Missouri State.

* Altoona edged Double-A Harrisburg 9-8 before the largest crowd in FNB Field history, 7,436. The Senators were up 8-3 in the ninth. Harrisburg tallied six runs in the fifth. Austin Davidson went 2-for-5 with a three-run shot and four RBIs. Kelvin Gutierrez and Osvaldo Abreu each had two hits. Dan Gamache also had a two-run double for the Sens.

Pepperdine product Davidson is hitting .348 with five doubles, three triples, three homers and 12 RBIs in 24 games. Davidson, 25, has a slash line of .348/.430/.565, and was called up to Harrisburg April 23.

Left-hander Bryan Harper (1-1) allowed six runs, three earned in the ninth, on four hits with two walks and no strikeouts.

You might remember Davidson for this ridiculous catch for Potomac earlier this season:

* Sunday's scheduled series finale between the Syracuse Chiefs and Rochester Red Wings has been postponed due to rain and cold throughout the night and expected through the day.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, June 25 at 4:05 p.m.

* The Nationals need to get better at taking advantage of bases-loaded situations. According to Baseball-Reference.com, the club is hitting .228 with runners in scoring position, with nine doubles, one triple, nine homers, 90 RBIs and 60 strikeouts.

But the eye-opener is when a Nats batter comes up in a bases-loaded situation, they are hitting only .188 with just seven extra base hits (one homer), 19 RBIs and seven strikeouts. They are 0-for-2 with the bases loaded and no out, .273 with the bases loaded and one away, and only hitting .158 (3-for-19) with the bases loaded and two outs, with four strikeouts and four walks.
