Peacock focused on job at hand, earning promotion to Syracuse

Right-hander Brad Peacock capped off a whirlwind week with a well-deserved promotion to Triple-A Syracuse. Peacock started the week in the XM All-Star Futures Game, was invited to the Eastern League All-Star Game and then got the call to the Chiefs. The Miami, Fla., native went 10-2 with a career-low 2.01 ERA in 16 games (14 starts) for Double-A Harrisburg, including a career-high 129 strikeouts and 23 walks. The numbers are even more gaudy when you just show his starting statistics: In 14 games, Peacock went 9-1 with a 1.85 ERA with 117 punchouts and 21 walks. Opponents hit only .170 against him when he started. Senators pitching coach Randy Tomlin said one of the major reasons Peacock was on top of his game this season was his ability to not look ahead and wonder when he would possibly get his shot at Triple-A. "He has been very good," Tomlin said. "The thing (we worked on) is staying one start at a time. He is working between each start to get ready for that start and having a good, solid, consistent delivery. You don't want to focus on what can happen or moving on (to the next level) or whatever. He just needs to focus to get ready for his next start and grind it out." Tomlin said that keeping the pitchers focused on accomplishing what is right in front of them is one of his most important tasks. "You keep them focused," Tomlin said. "Right here is your job, right here you get the ball and it is time to go pitch. It is time to keep doing what you have been doing. You keep them focused on working every day to get ready for the next outing." Peacock said that focus on the next pitch and the next batter has made a big difference for him this season. "You have to read their swings," Peacock said. "You have to have confidence, too. That is what I have had this year is a lot of confidence. It has been working out for me really good."
