Post-game notes: O's fall at Oakland to start road trip

Wins and losses: With the 6-2 loss at Oakland, the Orioles fell to 1 and 9 with seven losses in a row. The Orioles, off to their worst start since 1988, have the worst record in the Majors. They fall to 1-3 on the road and have not won since the third game of the year. The Orioles have now lost seven straight at Oakland and have not won there since July 22, 2007. The Orioles are 1-11 in their last 12 vs. the A's. Oakland is 66-28 vs. the O's since the start of the 1999 season. The O's scored single runs in the 7th and 9th to avoid being shutout. Still, they have scored just 10 runs in the last four games and only 12 in the last six. They have scored two runs or less in five of their past six games. Once again, the RISP stat: Tonight, they went hitless again, 0 for 8, when batting with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. They left the bases loaded in the 6th. Over the last six games, the Orioles are just 2 for 34 (.059) batting with RISP. On the year, they are batting just .135 (10 for 74) with RISP. David Hernandez gave up five runs and seven hits over five innings to take the loss. He is 0-2, 4.91 in two starts. The ERA of O's starters increased to 4.89 on the year. The A's put the leadoff runner on base vs. Hernandez in four of five innings and scored that runner each of those four times. He was good: Mark Hendrickson pitched two scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.35. Kam Mickolio, recalled from Triple-A today, pitched the 8th. He allowed one run on one hit and needed 29 pitches in the frame. Winning pitcher Ben Sheets threw six shutout innings of five-hit ball. He threw 97 pitches in picking up his first win since September 6, 2008 for Milwaukee vs. San Diego. He is 1-0, 2.65 on the season. Dave Trembley said after the game on MASN: "We just have to keep plugging away at it. We had a chance in the first, but Kouzmanoff makes that great play. I wish we could have scored early and added on. "Give Hernandez some credit, he kept having the leadoff man get on but minimized some damage. We had a couple of miscues, like we had a guy picked off first base and didn't get it. We'll keep trying to break through on this thing." Trembley said Felix Pie strained his left shoulder again. He left the game in the 7th inning. It's an injury he's been dealing with the last few weeks. The skipper said he would be evaluated further after the game. He said he had planned to start Nolan Reimold in left on Friday with a lefty on the hill. Nick Markakis came up with his first RBI of the year with a 7th-inning sac fly. He is 4 for 12 the last three games. Garrett Atkins double in the 2nd snapped an 0 for 12 run. Adam Jones went 3 for 5 with a single, double and triple. It's his 3rd multi-hit game. Nolan Reimold's single in the 9th snapped a 1 for 15 stretch. Before leaving the game, Pie went 0 for 3 to end a four-game batting streak. Ty Wigginton went hitless, ending his four-game streak. Friday night at 10:05, Kevin Millwood (0-1, 2.13) makes his third start of the year vs. A's lefty Dallas Braden (1-0, 2.77). In the minors Thursday: Norfolk beat Durham 6-4 as Rhyne Hughes had a pair of doubles and an RBI. Bowie improved to 7-1 with a 9-1 romp over Akron as Ryan Adams had four hits, two doubles and 2 RBI. Bowie, which has won six in a row, has never begun a year with an 8-1 mark. Frederick got crushed 15-5 by Myrtle Beach. The Keys issued 11 walks and made three errors. Xavier Avery had two hits and is batting .400. Delmarva topped Greensboro 6-4 for its 1,000th all-time win. T.J. Baxter hit two homers with 4 RBI. Matt Hobgood gave up two runs over 5 2/3 to get the win. The Shorebirds, now 6-2, host Hagerstown tonight for their home opener.
