Postgame comments from Gonzalez, Davis and Markakis after O's win over Boston

He is continuing to wait for the birth of his daughter, but while he was waiting, Miguel Gonzalez took some time today to pitch in a big league game. He pitched 6 1/3 innings to lead the Orioles past the Red Sox, improving to 3-0 with a 3.18 ERA in four career games against Boston. Has it been hard to pitch with matters at home on his mind? "It gets me pumped up. I'm excited," Gonzalez said. "I'm excited for her to come. She's taking a little longer than we thought, but just waiting on that day. It could be any day but I'll keep preparing myself for the next start." He used his usual good mix of pitches this afternoon to try and keep the Red Sox hitters off balance. "(Pitching) in and out and up and down was important for me and throwing that splitty when I needed to," Gonzalez said. "Also, the slider was working pretty well. It's a tough lineup and they're in first place, but we're right there with them." Chris Davis was 0-for-14 in his career against Boston lefty Jon Lester until he hit a two-run homer off of him in the third and he added an RBI double in the fifth. "I didn't know I didn't have a hit off him until I looked at some video after my first at-bat," Davis said. "Just tried to eliminate one side of the plate. Was able to get ahead of him 3-1 and he left a cutter out over the plate." The homer was the 100th of Davis' career and he now has the ball. "I was able to trade the ball for the bat and it's something that means a lot to me," he said. Davis was asked his take on the O's success against Boston now with six straight series wins and nine of the last 10 series wins vs. the Sox. "I think a lot of it has to do with the fact we play each other so much," Davis said. "We are a better team now and have a better approach against these days. We don't try to do too much, we just try to play mistake-free baseball and getting three out of four is big for us. We're in here to win." Nick Markakis had four hits, including two doubles and three runs today and it was his 18th career game of four hits or more. But it was the three wins in four over Boston he was more ready to talk about. "It was a big series for us. This was a big one today against a guy that's been a thorn in our butt. Miguel was a bulldog out there and that's the way he's been throwing all year for us," Markakis said.
