Postive reports on Matusz and Hardy

The Orioles made their roster moves official. They placed Chris Jakubauskas on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 17, with a strained right groin and purchased the contract of left-hander Clay Rapada from Triple-A Norfolk. Justin Duchscherer was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to create room on the 40-man roster. Jakubauskas began experiencing some tightness in his groin in New York, and he aggravated his condition in Cleveland while fielding a ball and throwing to second base to start a double play. Rapada will wear No. 57. Here are a few items from manager Buck Showalter's pre-game session with the media: Shortstop J.J. Hardy still isn't performing baseball-related activities, but there's marked improvement in his physical condition, according to the medical reports passed along to Showalter. Hardy is on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, and he'll probably exceed the 15-day period because the Orioles are being careful with him. "We're going to be as cautious as we can," Showalter said. Brian Matusz was pain-free today while throwing from 60 and 90 feet. He remains on the disabled list with a strained left intercostal muscle. Don't look for Matusz in the rotation anytime soon. He still needs to throw off a mound, and he could rejoin the Orioles during this homestand. He'll also have to go on an injury rehab assignment. The Orioles won't activate Matusz after one or two starts. They need him to build up innings and arm strength. Luke Scott is experiencing slight discomfort in his leg, but he's available to pinch-hit tonight. Showalter also wanted to get Jake Fox's right-handed bat in the lineup against Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano.
