Potomac has chance to move closer to playoffs tonight versus Frederick

High Single-A Potomac Nationals shut out Frederick 3-0 in a rain-shortened affair Saturday night to move within one game of the Keys and two games of the division with a week to play. Tonight, in an early 6:05 start, the P-Nats can complete the sweep of the Keys. Left-hander Robbie Ray (4-11, 4.52 ERA) gets the call against left-hander Tim Berry (4-5, 4.52). On Saturday, right-hander Matt Swynenberg scattered five hits and four walks, but managed to keep the Keys off the scoreboard. Jason Martinson smacked an RBI triple in the rain to give the P-Nats a 1-0 lead. A wild pitch allowed Martinson to score, and the lead was 2-0. A Jeff Howell home run completed the scoring, giving the P-Nats the 3-0 lead that would stand up. Swynenberg (6-5) notched his first career shutout for the six innings, and it was his second complete game of the year. Steven Souza, Jr., now has a team-leading .614 slugging percentage, with eight extra-base hits out of the 14 hits he has had this season. Martinson added to his amazing total of 100/100 in runs and RBIs. He now has 104 runs and 106 RBIs on the season. It is critical for the P-Nats to get this game tonight, because they end the season with seven games on the road, at Carolina and at Wilmington. They are just 8-18 away from Pfitzner stadium this season. The P-Nats trail Wilmington by two games with eight games to play.
