Potomac's Sammy Solis placed on the disabled list

The high Single-A Potomac Nationals announced late Monday that left-hander Sammy Solis has been placed on the disabled list. Right-hander Brian Rauh was called up from low Single-A Hagerstown Suns to take the roster spot. Solis, ranked as the No. 8 Nationals prospect by Baseball America, has started four games this season for the P-Nats since his return from rehabbing Tommy John surgery: May 21, 27, June 1 and 6. He had been rehabbing for months at the Nationals' extended spring training facility in Viera, Fla. Here is my rundown of his May 21 season debut at Frederick. His most recent outing at Myrtle Beach on Thursday, Solis allowed three runs on five hits, one walk and struck out three over five innings. Solis is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 16 innings, allowing 15 hits, seven runs, six earned runs, no homers, five walks and nine strikeouts. It always a concern when a Tommy John survivor has a setback in his return to baseball. Solis had not pitched since 2011 before returning in late May this season. Solis underwent Tommy John reconstruction surgery March 6, 2012. I have not been able to reach Nationals personnel for official comment on the reason for Solis' placement on the disabled list but should be able to get an answer Tuesday.
