Left-hander Sammy Solis has recovered from shoulder soreness and will start Monday night for the high Single-A Potomac Nationals at Salem, confirmed director of player development Doug Harris.
Solis has been out since the middle of June. He returned July 5 and pitched two shutout innings for the rookie-level Gulf Coast Nationals. He had three strikeouts, no walks and has allowed just one hit. He was supposed to have another GCL rehab start this week, but it was rained out.
Solis made four starts for Potomac from late May until mid-June, going 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA, nine strikeouts, five walks and 15 base hits allowed in 16 innings.
The P-Nats could use the big southpaw starter with pitchers like right-hander Taylor Hill and especially left-hander Robbie Ray called up to Double-A Harrisburg.
It is also important to get Solis multiple starts and see how the shoulder reacts, even with an innings limit waiting down the road.
* Nationals right-handed reliever Ryan Mattheus (broken right hand) has reported to the low Single-A Hagerstown Suns to begin his rehab assignment. Mattheus has been on the disabled list since May 20.
