Reimold on his two-homer game against Kansas City
The day didn't start out great for Nolan Reimold, but it ended up that way.
In the top of the second inning, Reimold, playing in left field, threw to the wrong base. With a man on first and one out, Wilson Betemit singled and Reimold's throw to third was much too late to get the runner and allowed Betemit to move into second. Kansas City went on to score four runs.
"I should have been thrown to second. I know that and I won't do it again," Reimold said. "I was kind of upset with myself for doing that so it was good to make up for it at the plate." That he did with his first two-homer game in the major leagues. He hit a solo shot in the second off lefty Jeff Francis and a three-shot in the third inning. It led the Orioles to a 6-5 win over the Royals in 12 innings and a three-game sweep. Reimold put his scouting report on Francis to good use. "He's got a good changeup, so I moved up in the box," he said. "I was sitting on it and he left it up for the first one. I know that with two strikes he likes to come in with the fastball. He did it twice in a row (in the third inning). I fouled that first one off and then was able to connect with the other." Later, Reimold added an infield single, a walk and double as part of a 4-for-4 day. For him it's a career-high in hits and his four RBIs is also a career best.
After Reimold spent most of last year at Triple-A and started this season with Norfolk, he can really appreciate having a day like this for the Orioles.
"It feels real good. I'm happy to have a good game and very happy to have a win," Reimold said. "We'll enjoy it for tonight.
"This definitely helps. It's good to get off to a good start here. Got my feet wet again and happy to be here. I want to take advantage of the opportunity and I'm appreciative of it."
Reimold is now 6-for-11 (.545) in four games with three homers and six RBIs. He had six homers in 139 at-bats in Triple-A.
As for the team, this is a season-high five wins in a row for the Orioles who head to the west coast back at .500 at 24-24.
"This shows a lot on a day like this. You can get fatigued and give in to the heat and humidity," Reimold said. "It shows a lot of fight and the guys really wanted to win. It was a satisfying victory.
"I'm glad Vladdy put an end to it. It was hot and humid out there today."
