Rendon promoted to Double-A Harrisburg (updated)

A Nationals source has confirmed that third baseman Anthony Rendon has been promoted from high Single-A Potomac to Double-A Harrisburg. The 22-year-old Rendon was Washington's first pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, taken sixth overall. He was rated Baseball America's 19th best prospect heading into the 2012 season. Rendon was informed of the promotion after the P-Nats' 4-3 home loss to Wilmington on Monday night, a game in which he went 2-for-4 while serving as the designated hitter. A badly sprained left ankle sustained in early April interrupted Rendon's first full season in the Nationals' farm system after he spent significant time in spring training with the parent club. Rendon was hitting .333 in nine games with Potomac. While on an injury rehabilitation assignment before rejoining the P-Nats, Rendon batted .364 with two homers and six RBIs in five games for the Gulf Coast League Nationals and .259 with a homer and three RBIs in eight games for short-season Single-A Auburn. Overall in his first pro season, Rendon is hitting .308 with three homers and nine RBIs. Update: With Rendon move to Harrisburg, third baseman Matt Skole was promoted to high Single-A Potomac. Further, infielder Khayyan Norfork was promoted to low Single-A Hagerstown from Auburn. The 23-year old Skole, a fifth-round selection in the 2011 draft out of Georgia Tech, has hit a franchise-leading 27 home runs and has 92 RBIs. Second baseman Norfork, a 23-year old from the University of Tennessee, is hitting 11-for-30 (.367) his last nine games, and has a .429 on-base percentage his last 10 contests.
