Rendon, Soto and Robles announced as NL Gold Glove finalists

The finalists for the 2019 Gold Glove Awards were announced by Rawlings today. Three Nationals - third baseman Anthony Rendon, left fielder Juan Soto and center fielder Victor Robles - made the top three at their position in the National League.

Soto, whose 21st birthday is tomorrow, is looking for his first Gold Glove. He is in the running with the D-backs' David Peralta and Padres' Hunter Renfroe. None have been honored with a Gold Glove.

Robles is joined in finalists' list by the Brewers' Lorenzo Cain and the Cardinals' Harrison Bader. Robles led all major league center fielders with 22 Defensive Runs Saved, while Cain had 20 and Bader 13.

Nationals manager Davey Martinez has often campaigned this season for Soto and Robles as Gold Glove candidates.

"I truly believe they should win it," Martinez said. "I told you this before, I looked at the numbers and I know Soto has played a lot better out there. When I looked at his numbers, I thought, man, he has a really legitimate chance to win.

"Kudos to them. Those two guys work unbelievably hard every day out there. And (third base coach) Bob Henley deserves a lot of credit for going out there and taking them out every day and making sure they get their work in."

Winners will be announced on Nov. 8.

The last Nationals player to win a Gold Glove was first baseman Adam LaRoche in 2012. Ryan Zimmerman won a Gold Glove at third base in 2009.
