Center fielder Ben Revere continues to make solid progress in his recovery from an oblique injury and will begin rehab games tomorrow night at Triple-A Syracuse.
Manager Dusty Baker said Revere made progress during yesterday's batting practice session. Revere has been on the disabled list since April 5 with a strained right oblique. He has missed 18 games.
"He looked good. I mean, he looked real good," Baker said. "He ran well. He ran the bases. He did everything baseball. And he went out today to go play."
Syracuse begins a seven-game homestand tomorrow night. The Chiefs face Pawtucket and Rochester through May 4. Baker said the Nationals will ramp Revere up from five to seven to nine innings if the rehab assignment goes as planned.
"We're going to track his progress. It's going to be much like spring training," Baker said. "We mapped it out with the trainer, myself and (general manager) Mike Rizzo, where you go like a couple five (innings), a then you go seven and then a nine. Or you go a couple of fives, then you have an off-day and then you try to extend him some more, have another off-day.
"And then you go a nine and then he has an off-day, hopefully before he gets back, and if things go perfectly, which they usually don't, then he's slated to come back sometime during the Chicago series."
