Revere goes five innings for Syracuse, still trending toward Thursday return

Center fielder Ben Revere, on a minor league rehabilitation assignment with a strained right oblique, played five innings in Triple-A Syracuse's 1-0 win over Rochester on Monday, going 0-for-3.

On defense, he caught a pair of flyouts in the second inning and one in the third. He squeezed a flyout in the fourth and then retrieved a single later in the inning.

On offense, he grounded out to the pitcher in the first and grounded out to the first baseman in his second at-bat. He later grounded out to the first baseman in the fifth.

After playing seven innings on Sunday, he played five frames Monday.

Syracuse has a night game tonight and then a morning game Wednesday. Revere is 2-for-11 (.182) with a stolen base and a walk in four games with the Chiefs.

The Nationals are in Kansas City, but travel to face the Chicago Cubs for a four-game set beginning Thursday night. That is the possible return game for Revere.

Today is Revere's birthday, which was his early target day to return from the 15-day disabled list. He is close, and it looks like this week he finally can come back from the strained right oblique.
