Reynolds continues to leave his mark

NEW YORK - Just another multi-homer game for Mark Reynolds today. Nothing to see here. Actually, there's been plenty. As I wrote earlier, he's batting .320 with five doubles, eight homers and 17 RBIs in his last 23 games. Reynolds homered off Phil Hughes in the fifth and sixth innings, his second shot driving in three runs and giving the Orioles a 5-3 lead. "The first one, I think it was a 2-2 fastball," he said. "He was trying to go away with it like he did in my first at-bat and struck me out. He left it over the middle. Pretty good swing on it. My second at-bat, I was looking for something I could elevate. Try to get a sac fly to bring that run in. He hung a curveball. I was just trying to hit a fly ball and got lucky enough to carry it out of the park. "I think it definitely took the life out of the stadium a little bit. And that's what it does. That's what it does to fans and it's just one of those things where you give us the lead and let our pitchers go out there and throw strikes and get some key outs for us." Reynolds is trying to salvage a season that challenged him mightily at the plate and in the field. "It's the past," he said. "Obviously, it helps my confidence, but just got to go out tomorrow and just play like it's a new day. And that's what it is. You can't rest on your laurels and you can't just think about yesterday, because it's gone, and this team is really good at staying in the moment. And that's what we're going to try to do the rest of the way out. And see where we are at the end." The Orioles won their third series in the Bronx this season and they could have swept the Yankees in this one, but they couldn't hold a 3-1 lead yesterday in the seventh inning. "We could have won yesterday, but it's our goal all year to win each series and a sweep is a bonus," Reynolds said. "We're real happy with getting two out of three here and will head up to Toronto and take care of our business there. "We came in last night after that tough loss and played music and shook it off. And today, we came out. Hughes had our number early through the game, but I think in the fifth or sixth inning he started to leave some balls over the plate a little bit and we were able to take advantage of it." What about winning six games in the Bronx? "We're a different team. We're not the same guys that were here last year or before. We're playing with a lot of confidence and we're just having fun," he said. "You look at a lot of young guys in here, they don't even know they're in a playoff race probably. Everyone in here is having fun and going out and playing hard. "September, it's a good time, especially when you're in it and have a chance to be in the postseason. That's everyone's goal at the beginning of the year and we're right there. We're right where we want to be."
