Reynolds going on DL with oblique injury

Keep those roster moves coming. Third baseman Mark Reynolds is headed to the disabled list with an oblique injury that he sustained while throwing yesterday in batting practice. The Orioles have purchased Bill Hall's contract from Triple-A Norfolk, and he'll take Reynolds' spot on the 25-man roster. However, the Orioles must clear room for Hall on the 40-man. Reynolds has never been on the disabled list before today. "I hurt my oblique yesterday, and it's not too bad, but it's one of those things where if I push it, it'll get worse, so we're going to get it better before anything else happens," Reynolds said. "It was during BP yesterday. I was actually throwing and I felt something in my side, so they did a bunch of tests and it's pretty sore and stiff. Hopefully, 15 days I'll be back out there. "I've never been on the DL before, never had an injury like this before, so I don't really know what to expect. But I do know that a lot of treatment and a lot of rest and get it better." Reynolds was 8-for-23 with three doubles, two homers and seven walks in his last seven games after going 3-for-33. "It sucks," he said. "It seems like I was swinging it well, seeing the ball well, and this happens. But it is what it is. You roll with the punches and hopefully I come back healthy and better." J.J. Hardy went on the disabled list last season with a similar injury. "We've talked about it a lot," Reynolds said. "His was worse last year. I think he was out five weeks or so. I'm not looking at that timeframe. I want to push it as much as I can and do as much treatment as I can and try to be back within the 15 days." Reynolds' injury forces the Orioles to make their 16th roster move this week. "Isn't it amazing what a 17-inning game (on Sunday) does to the roster of a major league team," he said. "But Dan (Duquette) signed a bunch of guys that can come in and fill holes and that's what you need in baseball, especially for as long as the season is. You need depth. And we've been able to have that so far. We've had guys fill in nicely. Hopefully, they can keep doing it and we can get a bunch of guys healthy and go back out there and contribute." Hall wasn't in Norfolk's lineup last night and shagged fly balls in the outfield. Coincidentally, he's in left field tonight. Hall was batting .222/.269/.381 with four doubles, two homers and seven RBIs in 15 games with Norfolk. Tides manager Ron Johnson gave Hall the news of his promotion after the game. "I wasn't getting itchy," he said. "I clearly understand I had a couple weeks off, so I need to get into baseball shape. I was trying to go down there and get back in shape as fast as possible and do the things they were looking for me to do and have a chance to come up here. I accomplished some of those things."
