Roberts MRI scheduled, 13 cuts made (updated)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts saw a back specialist today and received a few "trigger point injections," according to manager Buck Showalter. An MRI has been scheduled for tomorrow. Roberts will be shut down until Tuesday at the earliest. The cortisone is suppose to relax the spasms. "We're at a stage still in spring training where time is on our side a little bit," Showalter said. "The big thing is identifying it and seeing if we can do something to eliminate it and make sure we rule out anything else. But so far, so good. He's got a lot of tests from the previous time that we're able to compare it with and there wasn't any real red flag today. So we'll see how he feels in the next day or two. We'll probably let ti quiet down for at least the next two or three days. "We probably won't go back there again until around Tuesday. We'll see where we're at on Tuesday." The Orioles cut 13 players today: Catchers Caleb Joseph and Adam Donachie, infielder Pedro Florimon, outfielder Tyler Henson and pitchers Chorye Spoone, Brandon Erbe, Luis Lebron, Raul Rivero, Troy Patton, Pedro Viola, Mitch Atkins, Mark Worrell and Nick Bierbrodt. Koji Uehara will throw again tomorrow. Matt Wieters will serve as the designated hitter tomorrow in Kissimmee. Robert Andino led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run, but the Orioles lost to the Phillies 13-6 at Ed Smith Stadium. The Philies scored five runs off Rick VandenHurk in the top of the inning. Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer. The Orioles misplayed two more balls in the outfield.
